It was fishes and loaves, all over, again!

Katrina refugees at Ford Park September 11, 2005

We are so sorry for the delay in this report, but a lady named Rita blew through Beaumont and kind of side tracked us!

The FEMA people told us to prepare for 1000, but we cooked for 1200, just in case. We can’t stand the thought of running out of food before people. We just did not know who we were cooking for at the time. As it turned out, God had plans we knew not of and we were able to touch many shelters in this area.

We not only fed Ford Park, other shelters were blessed, as well:

  • Northwood Christian
  • Best Value Hotel has a group who has slipped through the cracks
  • Salvation Army
  • Wesley Methodist

Desserts are very expensive, sometime more than the meat!  So many of you were so kind, circulating the need for desserts to your email lists.  We had over 1000 servings donated, it looked like a bakery!

FEMA and the Red Cross workers at Ford Park were extremely complimentary about how well organized the team was. They commented on it throughout lunch.

Donations came from as far as Europe and all over this country to make Sunday successful.

There is no way to describe our appreciation to our helpers!   There were over 100 who…

  • emailed

  • baked

  • watched the fire with Howard all night

  • worked in the kitchen early Sunday morning

  • packaged, transported, set-up

  • sliced meat

  • served

  • greeted the people

  • passed out Bibles

  • helped clean up

  • transported back to the kitchen

  • cleaned up
